Chanukah falls in the Hebrew Calendar on the dates of 25 Kislev-2 Tevet.
-
Chanukah (translated as ‘‘dedication") is the Festival of Light. We gather to light the chanukiah (nine-branched menorah) and eat fried food (including latkes and sufganiyot) to remember the miracle of Maccabees retaining their Jewish practice during a time of oppression.
-
Customs here at Temple Tiferet Shalom include:
-
Having each child light their own chanukiah
-
Enjoying potato latkes together
-
Eating chocolate gelt (coins) provided by Sisterhood
-
