The main purpose of Jewish youth programs such as our pre-confirmation program is to strengthen the Jewish identity and Jewish loyalties of our teens. Included in this is the opportunity to help foster a participant’s desire to look outside the temple walls. Through opportunities such as Torah Hub, theater, lectures, dramatic programming offered by the North Shore Teen Initiative etc. our students will not only attend classes, but will have the opportunity to engage and facilitate their own learning.

When a young adult chooses to join a Jewish group or attend a religious event, his or her goals and concerns are not simply to be identified as a “Jewish” person.  Each teen is there in response to some inner need that may stem from either a societal concern or a deeper motive. If we wish to help Jewish teens become contributing members of the Jewish community, then we must help them become capable adults, as well as good Jews.

Andrew Allen, lead teacher and an educator for over twenty years, invites pre-confirmation aged children to participate in this year’s program, A Jew Within You. The curriculum requires critical thinking and reflection over a series of issues and topics.

Each class is on Tuesday evening, begins promptly at 6:00pm with a thirty-minute connection period and dinner. Class ends at 8pm. A schedule of classes can be obtained through the temple office.
