HISTORY OF TEMPLE TIFERET SHALOM
On October 20th, 2015, congregational meeings were held at Temple Beth Shalom in Peabody and at Temple Tifereth Israel in Malden. At both meetings, the congregations voted overwhelmingly to consolidate and form a new congregation, to be known as Temple Tiferet Shalom of the North Shore. The home of the new congregation is in Peabody, Massachusetts.
A second vote at the Temple Tifereth Israel congregational meeting authorized the sale of our Temple building in Malden. The proceeds from this sale has become the "Temple Tifereth Israel Building Fund for Temple Tiferet Shalom". The control of the use of these funds is defined by a document that was developed by leaders of both congregations. Some of the building proceeds will be used for transition and moving costs, and to provide transportation for those members in the Malden area for whom travel to Peabody will be a hardship.
The votes at the congregational meetings approved the "Agreement of Consolidation" that was developed by leaders of both congregations. This agreement defines how memberships, properties, cemeteries, and financial assets have been combined.
"Articles of Consolidation" were filed with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. This legally created a new non-profit corporation, effective on November 1st, 2015.
The new congregation has a new constitution that was drafted by leaders of both congregations.
Our new congregation is extremely grateful for the work of members of both congregations who exhibited great dedication to the continuation of Reform Judaism on the North Shore.
